To all those who have long sought a rifle that can hit steel beyond 1,000 yards without breaking the bank: the answer is finally here.
Ruger has just introduced the Ruger Precision Rifle, with a bolt action, customizable features, in-line recoil path, and cartridge options in .308 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor
“Whether shooting tight groups at 100 yards, or reaching out to steel plates at 1,000 yards or beyond, shooting the Ruger Precision Rifle is a highly satisfying experience,” Ruger CEO Mike Fifer said. “The engineering applied to the action of the Ruger American Rifle brings world-class performance to Ruger long-range marksmanship.”
The rifle’s in-line recoil path from the rear receiver to the buttstock removes the need for barrel bedding, leaving highly accurate cold hammer-forged barrel to float freely. The barrel is forged from 4140 chrome-moly steel and features 5/8″-24 threads at the muzzle, allowing for the use of sound suppressors.
The Ruger Precision MSR rifle stock incorporates an adjustable comb and length of pull that can be changed easily, but locks down tight for immobility during firing. The stock also has QD sling attachments and a Picatinny rail for monopod attachments. The rifle itself uses an AR-style buffer system, so AR rifle stocks can be used in the place of the Ruger stock.
The upper receiver and one-piece bolt are CNC-machined from pre-hardened 4140 chrome-moly steel, and the lower receiver is CNC-machined from aerospace-grade 7075-T6 forged aluminum. The upper receiver also includes a 20-MOA Picatinny rail secured with four #8-40 screws for increased long-range elevation capabilities.
The Ruger Marksman Adjustable trigger is adjustable from 2.25 to 5.0 pounds. The hex wrench for the pull weight adjustment is stored in the bolt shroud, as is a bolt disassembly tool.
The rifle comes in different models. .308 Win. with 1:10 twist, 20″ barrel weighing, 9.7 lbs.; 6.5 Creedmoor with a 1:8 twist, 24″ barrel, weighing 10.6 pounds; .338 Lapua Magnum; 6mm Creedmore and 6.5 PRC
